It finally received 2.5 million listens, and on May 4, 2018, it was formally released as a single. The song “ Lucid Dreams” and the EP “JuiceWrld 9 9 9” were first made available on SoundCloud on June 15, 2017. Juice Wrld said the song was intended to be a “therapy session” during a time when he was having relationship issues in a June 2018 interview with Lyrical Lemonade. The RIAA awarded the song a Diamond certification in February 2022 for selling over 10 million copies in the United States.
The remix was formally released on May 28, 2021, as a part of the re-release of Goodbye & Good Riddance, which celebrated the album’s third birthday. In May 2021, the remix surfaced online after fans raised $12,000 to buy the song from leakers. Lil Uzi Vert, a fellow American rapper and vocalist, was included in a 2018 remix, but it was never published because of problems with sample clearance.
